On my way to the gym before work this morning at 4:30am, the usually empty roads and store lots were filled with shoppers trying to take advantage of the "Black Friday" sales.
The very same Individuals who only 2 days before cursed the alarm clock and what their day held beyond it. All excited and full of anticipation at the adventure of "winning" some perceived victory against retailers and others with the same goal and purpose. Awesome, more power to them and their goal.
I dont see a problem with all the Black Friday traditions, the full lots and roads mean that people are employed and able to spend. Yes, there are valid arguments about over-comsumerism and losing the true meaning of the Holiday Season but please take that stuff somewhere else - This blog is about WORK.
As I drove on, the question came to mind, "What if?"
WHAT IF?
WHAT IF - Every person that got up at an hour they haven't seen since last year actually got up and did something with those couple of hours to better themselves at least one day a week over the last year instead of sleeping?
WHAT IF - They embraced EVERY day no matter what it held as a gift, an opportunity, another chance to pursue Excellence and Greatness in themselves?
WHAT IF - The first thing on their mind when they woke up was "I am going to DESTROY my day. I will be BETTER than I am in at least one way by the time I lay back down tonight."?
WHAT IF - They chose to do the WORK it takes to do just that - without anyone else except God and themselves knowing the price they are paying by training in the empty gym, running under the glow of streetlights, praying at the foot of their children's bed, DOING the WORK that transforms.
WHAT IF - They attacked EVERY day with the same vigor, purpose and drive that they award this one?
I dare say by next year Friday wouldn't be nearly so bleak to so many.
You CAN be GREAT, You can acheive EXCELLENCE, but You must PAY THE PRICE.
Work works - DO IT
